The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

This is in response to Jonathan Jones’ article (“Russell Wilson should not be a celebrated senior, Nov. 17). I don’t see how this was allowed to run in the DTH.

I am a proud alumnus of UNC and dislike N.C. State as much as the next Tar Heel, but I do not think that this was a necessary article to be printed. He may be only a redshirt junior, but he has graduated and is taking grad school classes. I’d say he earned his Senior Day recognition.

Now, I cheer against him every time he takes the field like every loyal Tar Heel does, but I will still give respect when it is due. On top of all that, when did other schools’ Senior Day celebrations start becoming newsworthy in Chapel Hill? Our paper should cover our sports and their upcoming matchups on the field. Stories about opponents should give the reader knowledge of what to expect from the opponent and what to look for when watching the game. I’ll be in Kenan clad in my Carolina Blue this weekend cheering loudly to hurt State’s Atlantic Division Title hopes. Any day we beat State is a good day in my eyes, but leave making fun of their Senior Day to your own conversations and out of the printed media.
