The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

Last night I attended CUAB’s “Cody Hughes Stand-Up Spectacular,” and I was appalled by the downright offensiveness of most of the student comedians, particularly in regards to gender and sex issues.

I don’t recall a single contestant who didn’t make at least one extremely degrading anti-woman joke.

My least favorite was the gem, “I like my women like I like my coffee — easy to stick my penis in.” I hope the speaker gets his scalded off if he ever tries it.

What kind of a culture do we live in that these sorts of comments are made?

I don’t care that it’s supposed to be “humor;” no thinking, feeling human being is laughing.

Many people are questioning the true progressiveness and human decency on this campus, and I say question away.

There’s a lot more bigotry where that came from.

And those of us who are angry about it darn well need to make some noise, so that the perpetrators know they can either shape up or leave.
