UNC Board of Trustees offering $25,000 reward in UNC student's death

The UNC Board of Trustees is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the homicide investigation of UNC student Faith Danielle Hedgepeth.

The Haliwa-Saponi Tribe and Hawthorne at the View Apartments are each also offering $1,000 to the reward fund, the Chapel Hill Police Department announced Wednesday.

Hedgepeth, 19, was found by friends in her apartment at Hawthorne at the View Apartments on Friday morning.

Police have ruled out a self-inflicted or accidental death and are investigating Hedgepeth’s death as a homicide.

Hedgepeth was a member of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe in Warren County and was involved in several American Indian student organizations at UNC.

The reward is being offered through the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers program. Police are asking people with information about Hedgepeth’s death to call Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515. Calls are confidential.
