WOTS: How are you involved with the arts at UNC?

Art and cultural venues play prominent roles not only on campus, but also throughout the Triangle. While some students enjoy getting their creative fix by attending on-campus performances, some undertake art-related minors and others participate in various clubs. Staff writer Grace Carney asked UNC students how they’re involved with the arts.

Ellie Sheild

Senior political science major and Spanish minor

“I try to go to the Carolina Performing Arts Theater at least four times per semester.”

Malik Currence

Junior sociology major and studio arts minor

“I am a studio arts minor with a concentration in photography.”

Joe Pleverdir

Junior computer science major and German minor

“I attended a performance at Memorial Hall called ‘Journey Into Asia’ and enjoyed it.”

Thomas Andrews

Junior economics major and Hispanic linguistics minor

“I love the Kenan Theater performances. I went to four different plays last year. I loved the UNC production of ‘My Fair Lady.’”

Thomas Blackburn

Hailey Browndir

“I’m in the Tarpeggios a cappella group, I play the violin for theater productions and I sing both recreationally and competitively. I am a Zumba instructor, I dance every day and I make money drawing portraits in my free time. I play the ukulele and write creatively, and I attend 1-2 open mics per week to play original songs, read poetry or do stand-up comedy.”
