Amtrak Fatality

An Amtrak passenger train fatally struck a man lying on the tracks around 8 p.m. on Saturday. 

Noel Summers Pitsenbarger, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 3100 block of Hillsborough Road in Durham. 

According to Wil Glenn, the spokesperson for the police department, preliminary investigations indicate the incident was a suicide. 

The train, a Piedmont 76 left Charlotte at 5:15 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Raleigh at 8:36, according to a report by The Herald Sun. Sixty-eight passengers were traveling on the train, none of whom were injured. 

The accident remains under investigation. 

Target theft

A Target on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard had over $1,000 worth of merchandise stolen in two separate incidents this weekend. All the merchandise was recovered according to the reports by Durham Police Department. 

Two people were seen on security cameras Friday around 8 p.m. walking out of the store with two shopping carts full of clothing and various edible goods. The merchandise added up to $709.99. 

The second incident was reported shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday. A customer left the store with unpaid merchandise, and an officer assisted store employees walking the customer back into the store and recovered $352 worth of children’s clothes, shoes and toys. 

According to the police report, all three individuals were cited for misdemeanor larceny.
