UNC sophomore Tara Naik poses for a portrait on the quad on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023. Tara will go to Charleston with her family during Thanksgiving break.

With the start of Thanksgiving break around the corner, many students are heading off campus for the holiday. From birthdays to skiing to spending time with family, University reporter Dallia Lindell spoke with students and asked them the question, “How are you spending Thanksgiving break this year?"

Megan Mills, UNC senior

“I’m just going to go home and spend time with my family because I haven’t gotten to in a little bit, so it’ll be nice to just go home and relax for once.”

Mil Laursen, UNC first-year

“I am going to go visit my grandparents and eat turkey, and then I’m going to go home and kiss my cat.”

Bailey Zino, UNC first-year

“I’m just going home, spending time with family.”

Jocelyn Loyola-Lonjinos, UNC sophomore

“I’m going home to spend time with my family. We’re going to see some cousins and aunts and uncles.”

Steven Alonso, UNC sophomore

“I’m going to be heading home and having Thanksgiving dinner with my family. I don’t really see them often, so I’m just gonna be doing that and seeing some friends, celebrating my birthday because it’s the following week.”

Noelle Harff, UNC junior

“I’m from Colorado, so I’m actually going to go home — and the mountain just opened, so I’m going to go ski, which is exciting.”

Toby Posel, UNC sophomore

“I’m from New York City, so I am flying back to the city to see my family and my friends.”

Tara Naik, UNC sophomore

“I’m going to be going back home on Tuesday. I’m just going to be going with my family to Charleston. So it’s an interesting winter beach trip.”

Lasya Kandukuri, UNC sophomore

“I’m going home to my family in Charlotte on Tuesday, and my birthday’s on that Friday, so I’m forcing my family to do a photoshoot with me. We’re all gonna get family portraits.”

Milen Abraham, UNC first-year

“I’m going back home to see my family in Charlotte. Just eating Eritrean food, kind of like a twist on a normal American Thanksgiving, but I love it.”
