Carolina Dance Initiative will make you a dance master

Carolina Dance Initiative is hosting their first event of the year this Saturday — a day of master dance classes.

But you don’t have to be a master dancer to attend. The four classes will be taught by professional instructors.

The full day of dance starts with registration and stretching at 10 a.m.

Then the fun stuff begins.

Laurie Yeames, a renowned ballerina trained at the Maryland Youth Ballet, will be teaching ballet; Martha Nichols, one of the finalists on “So You Think You Can Dance: Season 2,” will be instructing a contemporary class; Local dancer Darra Gasper, who teaches at the Cary Ballet Conservatory, will hold a jazz class; Matthew Gershen, a UNC student and Tap Kids touring cast member, will be leading the final class of the day — hip-hop.

Tickets for the day of master classes can be purchased for $7 in the Pit tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They can also be purchased at the door for $9.

Saturday too soon? Already have plans with your mom? No worries. Check out Carolina Dance Initiative’s Web Site. Classes are taught every week by UNC students.

Attend the Carolina Dance Initiative’s day of master classes Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the marley floor of the Union underground.
