UNC locks up Coastal Division

Despite stacked odds — a packed stadium, a retiring legend and a team primed for the upset — North Carolina fended off Virginia Tech for a 30-27 overtime victory. With the win, the Tar Heels clinched the ACC Coastal Division for the first time in school history, guaranteeing them a spot in the ACC championship game.

Williams frees himself from his past

After Marquise Williams' second fumble of the fourth quarter and third of the game, the ghost of the redshirt senior quarterback's performance in the season-opening loss to South Carolina loomed large. But Williams shook off the turnovers to throw the game-winning touchdown and finally put the past behind him.

Field hockey season ends in championship loss

After falling behind 2-0 in the first half of the NCAA championship game against Syracuse, the North Carolina field hockey team rallied to tie the match with two goals. But ultimately a Syracuse team that has given the Tar Heels fits the past few seasons proved too much, and UNC fell by a final score of 4-2.

'Super-sub' Tucker Hume excels as a starter 

Making just his third start of the season, redshirt junior forward Tucker Hume scored only two minutes into the North Carolina men's soccer team's 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Hume also assisted on the Tar Heels other goal.

Henderson twins carry UNC wrestling

Both Evan and Robert Henderson had big wins for the North Carolina wrestling team against Gardner-Webb. After the Tar Heels fell behind 6-0, the Henderson twins won their matches to start a snowball effect for UNC that culminated in a 25-12 win.

Looking ahead

  • The North Carolina men's basketball team will play in the Hall of Fame Classic starting at 9:15 p.m. on Monday against Northwestern in Kansas City. If UNC wins, it'll play the winner of Missouri and Kansas State on Tuesday night. 
  • The North Carolina volleyball team will travel to play at Wake Forest at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. 
  • The North Carolina women's basketball team will play at home against Pacific at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
