The most interesting coach in town

North Carolina fencing coach Ron Miller didn't realize how much his childhood job of snake catching would prepare him to become the longest current tenured coach at UNC.

Since coming to the University in 1967, Miller has built the fencing program from the ground up. Over his 49-year career, he has made North Carolina a consistent contender in the sport and has fostered a team-atmosphere that has been-rivaled by very few before or since.

Swimming readies for rivalry weekend

Because of inclement weather last weekend, the North Carolina swimming and diving team will face off against conference rivals Virginia and N.C. State in a highly anticipated tri-meet at 4 p.m. on Friday at Koury Natatorium.

And with a matchup against Duke the following morning, the Tar Heels have called on the services of two sports psychologists to keep them focused ahead of what may be UNC's most important regular season stretch.

Goldstock ready to step into leadership role

Luke Goldstock put together one of the most impressive season's in North Carolina men's lacrosse history when he racked up 50 goals as a sophomore in 2015, breaking the UNC record for goals in a season.

But with the departure of several key contributors from a season ago, Goldstock, now a junior, will be asked to carry the load even more — not only as a goal-scorer, but as a leader.

Q&A with former UNC women's soccer player Alexa Newfield

After battling through injuries for the majority of her college career, former North Carolina women's soccer player Alexa Newfield led the Tar Heels in goals (11) and points (25) as a sixth-year senior in 2015.

On Jan. 15, Newfield was selected No. 28 overall by FC Kansas City in the 2016 NWSL Draft. Now she is preparing to embark on what she hopes is a successful pro career.
