Tar Heels picked to finish fourth in division

Media covering the 2010 ACC Football Kickoff selected North Carolina to finish fourth in the Coastal Division this season.

The Tar Heels received five first-place votes and totaled 379 points in all. They finished behind No. 1 Virginia Tech (532 points), Miami (444) and Georgia Tech (408).

UNC received two votes to win the ACC Championship, which will be held in Charlotte in December, out of the 98 votes. Va. Tech is the overwhelming favorite with 50 first-place votes, with most members of the media believing the Hokies will top Florida State for the title.

Rising junior defensive end Robert Quinn received six votes for ACC player of the year. That tied him with N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson for fourth. FSU quarterback and preseason Heisman hopeful Christian Ponder ran away with the preseason nod with 45 votes.

Quinn was the highest rated defensive player in the preseason POY voting. Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich received two votes for eighth place.
