No score at the half of the College Cup final

Through the first 45 minutes of the national championship game neither the North Carolina men’s soccer team nor UNC-Charlotte have managed to net a goal.

The 49ers set the tone early, earning a corner kick in the first minute of the game. UNC struggled to possess for the first 20 minutes as UNC-Charlotte played physical and tight defense that stifled the Tar Heel attack.

As the half wore on, the Tar Heels started to find the rhythm that coach Carlos Somoano preaches and went on to tally seven shots to the 49ers five.

The Tar Heels best look of the half came with just 3 minutes left as freshman Mikey Lopez made a tackle around midfield and carried down to around the penalty area before attempting a give and go with Rob Lovejoy.

Lopez’s leaping attempt sailed high.

UNC-Charlotte went on register three more corners after the first one while UNC earned just one in the first half.
