Field Hockey: UNC leads ODU 2-1 at halftime

The No. 1 North Carolina field hockey team leads No. 8 Old Dominion at halftime of the Tar Heels’ home opener.

After a very frenzied start with both teams having short possessions, Old Dominion Sarah Breen broke the 0-0 tie with 21:02 on the clock, but the goal was quickly called back by the referees for a penalty.

UNC quickly responded with 19:17 left in the half when sophomore back Samantha Travers scored off a pass from senior forward Katie Ardrey and senior midfielder Kelsey Kolojejchick on a penalty corner.

ODU netted their first official goal at 17:07 during a penalty corner on a rebounded save put-back by Rosario Vilagra.

With just under seven minutes left in the half, UNC Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany scored off of a steal deep in ODU territory.

Although Old Dominion has only allowed 10 shots per game, at the half the Tar Heels have already put five attempts on cage with eight total shots, and their fast-paced offense looks poised for even more in the second half.
