UNC System President Thomas Ross and Chancellor Holden Thorp discuss the African American department at the BOG meeting on May 14.

Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels.

Here’s what the Tar Heels have been up to:

  • Following Holden Thorp’s announcement Monday that he plans to resign from his position as the University’s chancellor on June 30, University Editor Nicole Comparato took a look at his decision as it revolved around one of the most damaging scandals in University history.
  • According to News & Observer writer Dan Kane, like any other university chancellor, Holden Thorp struggled with athletic scandals during his tenure, while fellow writer Andrew Carter discusses the shock of UNC athletic officials by Thorp’s decision.
  • Heading into this weekend’s game against ECU, the UNC football team seeks to find its identity after playing two contrasting halves in the 39-34 loss to Louisville last week.
  • Running back Romar Morris stepped up in place of Giovani Bernard against Louisville, Senior Writer Kelly Parsons writes.
  • Senior Gina Suarez-Malaguti was named top singles champion at the Duke Plus One Invitational last weekend as the UNC women’s tennis team directs its training in preparation for in-season spring competition, Marilyn Payne writes.
