Playing in just their second home game of the season, it looked like North Carolina would be tied with Kennesaw State 0-0 at the half.
The Tar Heels saw the first half winding down in a scoreless tie, despite outshooting the Owls through the entire first half. But in the 45th minute, on its ninth shot of the half, UNC sophomore Paige Nielsen would score her second goal of the season off an assist from senior Megan Brigman.
The Tar Heels have a noticeably different lineup today, as they are playing without reigning national player of the year senior Crystal Dunn. Dunn will be traveling to Washington D.C. to play with the United States Women’s National Team in their game against Mexico on Tuesday, and is inactive.
Even without Dunn, UNC has been very aggressive on offense, taking six corner kicks in addition to the nine shots. Their defense has been tough as well, only giving up one shot and one corner kick to Kennesaw State.
