• Assistant Sports Editor Grace Raynor writes that freshman wide receiver Bug Howard came up big in the North Carolina football team’s 34-10 win against Boston College Saturday.

• The Tar Heels possessed a sense of urgency and desperation against Boston College, picking up their first win since Sept. 7.

• Check out these positives and negatives from UNC’s defeat of the Eagles from Harold Gutmann of the (Durham) Herald Sun.

• Sammy Batten of The Fayetteville Observer writes that senior defensive end Kareem Martin fired up the UNC defense against the Eagles.

• After a long summer, North Carolina men’s basketball junior guard P.J. Hairston was greeted warmly at Late Night with Roy Friday, Sports Editor Brooke Pryor writes.

• ESPN.com’s C.L. Brown writes that the UNC basketball team will sit out sophomore forward J.P. Tokoto in its exhibition game against UNC-Pembroke due to unapproved participation in summer league games.

• Sticking to basketball, former Tar Heel players Reggie Bullock and Tyler Zeller are still looking to get back into shape going into the start of the year with their respective NBA teams.

• After being traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards Saturday, former UNC point guard Kendall Marshall was waived, leaving his future in the NBA currently uncertain.

• The UNC women’s soccer team picked up an come-from-behind overtime victory against Wake Forest behind a game-winner from senior midfielder Kealia Ohai, Ben Salkeld writes.

• After losing to UNC-Wilmington last week, the Tar Heel men’s soccer team bounced back with a weekend road win against Pittsburgh Saturday.

• Bryan Frantz writes that the field hockey team went 1-1 in a weekend road trip, with the loss bringing an end to its six-game winning streak.

• The men’s golf team captured first place at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in Greensboro this weekend, Logan Ulrich writes.

• The women’s golf team claimed an 11th place finish at the Landfall Tradition tournament hosted by the UNC-Wilmington, Pat James writes.

• The Tar Heel volleyball team picked up a five-set win against Maryland Friday in the Dean E. Smith Center to kick off Late NIght with Roy, Brandon Chase writes.

• Madison Way writes that setters boosted the volleyball team in its second win of the weekend against Pittsburgh Sunday.
