RALEIGH — Bryn Renner, Marquise Williams and even wide receiver Ryan Switzer have all had turns chucking the football for North Carolina today, and together they’ve helped UNC jump out to a 21-16 halftime lead.
After N.C. State put up a quick 10 points on UNC to start the contest, Williams took over at quarterback in UNC’s third series and led a Tar Heel scoring drive that culminated in a two-yard pass to Quinshad Davis.
Then, after N.C. State turned the ball over on downs on a fake punt attempt later in the quarter, Renner returned to orchestrate a four-play scoring drive, taking the ball himself for a one-yard run to score the touchdown.
Switzer entered the mix in the second quarter, when he connected on a 59-yard option pass to Davis for his first career passing touchdown.
N.C. State and UNC enter halftime neck-and-neck statistically. UNC has tallied one more first down and has 216 yards to N.C. State’s 192. UNC has focused on its aerial attack, while the Wolfpack has accrued 148 yards on the ground — 76 of which have come from quarterback Brandon Mitchell.
