UNC men's basketball leads Oakland 58-21 at halftime

In its season opener, the North Carolina basketball team leads Oakland 58-21.

In the absence of veterans Leslie McDonald and P.J. Hairston, forward James Michael McAdoo and guard Marcus Paige have contributed in a big way with McAdoo putting up a game-high 15 points and seven rebounds and Paige tying a career high with four 3-pointers.

Joel James started at the five for UNC with McAdoo at the four, J.P. Tokoto at the three, Paige at the two and freshman Nate Britt at the point. However, Kennedy Meeks has spent most of the night at center, scoring eight points and tallying four rebounds.

Each member of UNC’s freshman class — Britt, Meeks and Isaiah Hicks — have scored at least once.

UNC shot 74 percent from the field as a team in the first half, holding the Golden Grizzlies to a 20.7 percentage. The Tar Heels also hold a 25-10 advantage at the boards.
