UNC baseball wins game 2 against Wake, clinches series

The North Carolina baseball team beat Wake Forest for the second day in a row, thanks to some key hitting with runners in scoring position, to win their second consecutive series.

With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Adrian Chacon started the bottom half of the frame with a lead off double, before Adam Pate came in for him as a pinch runner. Tyler Ramirez--who hit a grand slam in yesterday's 9-0 win--followed that up with a single that moved Pate to third base. Michael Russell's sacrifice fly in the next at bat would plate Pate, and secure the winning run of the game.

Zach Rice and Reilly Hovis combined to throw the final 2.2 innings for the Tar Heels and lock down the 4-3 win. The two allowed just two hits and zero walks.

Benton Moss tossed 6.1 innings of three-run ball to keep his team in the game, but was visibly upset with his performance after the game.

"The starter's job is to go out there, eat innings and give their team the best chance to win," he said. "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't.

"I felt like I had good stuff, just maybe not the best control."

Moss allowed six hits, walked three batters and struck out three before coming out of the game in the seventh inning with two runners on base.

Michael Russell continued his hot-hitting in the lead off role with a 1-3 day at the plate that included two runs and the game-winning RBI. Skye Bolt plated two runs as well despite not tallying any hits.

The Tar Heels will go for their first sweep of the season tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. with Zac Gallen getting the start.
