Musicals to see at DPAC this season

For all the musical junkies out there, I have good news — the Durham Performing Arts Center is hosting Disney’s musical "Lion King" starting on Feb. 16 to March 20. You need to hurry since some of the shows are already running low on tickets.

This doesn’t surprise me — I can’t find any other theaters that host musicals around the Triangle area. Regardless, if you’re a fan, grab this chance. It’s only a 30 minute drive from UNC and the theater provides student rush tickets for some shows.

Currently, DPAC is hosting "Matilda," which ends on Jan. 24.

Once again, there is limited number of tickets, and you’ll rarely find two or more consecutive seats available. But who needs company when you have an entire team of actors on stage to wow you? I definitely don’t mind enjoying a show alone. In fact, I prefer focusing on the show sans distraction.

My only concern is the weather. The forecast says we’ll see some snow this coming week. This obviously poses a problem for drivers. DPAC unfortunately don’t give refunds in cases of weather crises. Instead, they provide “make-up” tickets for future DPAC events. I find this far from satisfying, but it’s better than nothing.

For more information, check out their website. They have ample information on pre-show dining options, nearby attractions, and more awesome shows to come!
