Students voice transportation concerns at forum

Only a few students appeared at Thursday’s annual Transportation Forum hosted by the UNC Department of Public Safety.

But that didn’t stop them from airing their concerns about transportation to a panel of representatives from DPS and local bus services.

“It’s mostly just crowded,” said freshman Kaitlyn Revilla, who expressed concerns over the efficiency of bussing in Chapel Hill.

“They should figure out which buses are used the most by students and increase the number of those.”

The discussion also addressed personal commuting issues and the overall effectiveness of the bus service.

Panelists also responded to students’ requests to have the bus hours extended, especially on weekends.

Officer Michael Davis of the DPS Commuter Response Unit said the concerns will be relayed to Chancellor Holden Thorp.

“Because the University is growing, transportation is going to be on the forefront of the Chancellor’s mind,” Davis said.

“And when the issues are presented to him, we will have the research done.”
