Student Congress Chronicle: Sept. 14

The 92nd Student Congress met Tuesday night in Peabody Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Forty executive branch external appointments were confirmed by the 32 voting members present. Aside from appointments, most congressional business was financially centered.

A loan of $5,000 that is to be paid back by the end of the school year was allocated to Young Democrats for fundraising. The Comparative Literature and English Association was granted $1,000 for a speaker for
their annual conference.

Most debate centered on a request for $9230 from UNC Chabad, a campus Jewish organization that provides services and support for more than 500 students. After much debate, two separate bills were passed, granting Chabad a total of $7,640.
The funds will be used for day-to-day operations as well asprogram and speaker fees.

In other business, two members of Congress were expelled for not attending the required number of meetings.
