The wall of sticky notes in Hanes Art Center.

If you could post any question on a sticky note and have a stranger leave a response, what would you ask?

Well, now you can!

The Hanes Art Center’s first floor lobby hosts an entire glass wall full of brilliant sticky notes with creative questions followed by intriguing, thoughtful, insightful and witty responses. All it takes is a wall, lots of sticky notes, and a sign saying, “Answer a Question. Leave a Question.”

When I first saw the wall, I was immediately taken by the idea. Then, of course, there’s the fun of reading and replying to all the other questions, which provokes your thinking in ways you’ve, well, never before thought.

I won’t spoil all the fun in checking out the wall for yourself, but here are a few examples you can see for yourself:

Q. Who are you?
A. “I am that I am.” — God

Q. Why are all of the questions over there? <—
A. Who knows, way to stand out.

Q. Why are sisters so annoying and stupid?
A. Because they know everything.

Q. Is Pluto a planet or not?
A. In my heart.

Q. How do you multiply mass times the speed of light squared?
A. With numbers.
A2. E=mc^2

Q. What is your SSN?
A. My super secret name? It’s a secret.

Q. Have you ever submitted a kvetch?
A. Yep, I proposed in one.
A2. I said, ‘yes.’ =)

Q. Have you ever saved a life? What happened?
A. Yes, I saved a woman from drowning.

Q. Why procrastinate?
A. Why not?
A2. I’ll answer you later.
A3. Procrastinate your procrastination.

Q. Do you think there are more grains of sand or gallons of water in the earth?
No answer.

Q. How can we be sure of anything?
A. Because Truth is absolute & God promises Truth. Take Him at His word.
A2. We can’t. That’s why they call it ‘faith.’

Now, this could have a lot to do with my studying philosophy, but all of this got me thinking.

While we know a certain response has a lot to say about someone and his/her way of thinking, it occurred to me that much more lies in our questions and how we ask them. (Pause for thinking-philosopher’s-facial-expression).

Let that inspire you and compel you to check out the many diverse questions and responses that serve to reflect the diversity of our campus!
