If you have been in the Pit at all this week, you’ve probably noticed the stationary bikes or heard pop music blaring from the nearby tent.

For the second year in a row, Bike to Uganda has taken over the Pit. Bike to Uganda is an event sponsored by UNC’s Building Tomorrow. To show their support and raise awareness for educational needs in Uganda, participants ride a stationary bike for 30 minutes.

After gorging myself on Lenoir cookies, my guilty conscience persuaded me to sign up. What better way to get in a great workout while supporting a worthwhile cause!

As I tied my sneakers for the first time all year, I prepared myself for 30 minutes of mental and physical anguish. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hosts are incredibly hospitable, providing me with all the encouragement, refreshments, and Cosmo magazines I needed to make it through my time.

If you are like me and the thought of standing for 24 hours makes you weak in the knees or you can barely eat two Krispy Kreme doughnuts (much less a dozen), then Bike to Uganda is a great way to get involved on campus.

It only costs five dollars to participate and you can sign up online. The event goes until Friday at 7 p.m., so make sure you head over to the Pit and get in on the all the action.
