Katie’s finished sheet fort in her Ruffin dorm room.

For many of us, this week (and every week until Fall break) marks the start of midterms. With stress at a high point after studying all of those chemistry terms, it’s time to take a moment to relax. What better way to do that than build an awesome sheet fort?

This childhood staple can be an escape from the pages of your textbook. It’s fun, easy and best of all completely free.

What you’ll need: sheets, rubber bands/string/clips, pillows, blankets and some chairs.

1. Clear a spot on your floor

Place your blanket (or blankets) on the floor so that it is as comfortable as possible. You can use pillows as floor cushions, or place them against your bed to have something to lean against.

2. Set up your chairs

Position your chairs around your blankets in any way you choose. If you want four sides, position your chairs in a rectangular-like fashion around your blankets. If you only have two chairs, use your bed posts as the other two points.

3. Tie up your sheets

Drape your sheets over your chairs, leaving enough of the sheet to hang down to make walls. You can add another sheet for more coverage. Attach your sheets to your chairs and/or bed posts using rubber bands, string or clips.

Voila! You’ve got yourself an awesome sheet fort. If you happen to have string lights lying around your room, spruce up your fort by stringing them inside.

So crawl inside and curl up with your favorite movie or novel, or just take a nap. Enjoy!
