How to live Tweet award shows

It’s the night we’ve all be waiting for.

LL Cool J is back to host the 2016 Grammy Awards for a fifth time with undoubtedly another flat cap and some dad jokes — but we love it.

If you’re bummed that you still didn’t get the invite this year, don’t worry — you can join the majority of the population and live tweet the event from the comfort of your sweatpants. Welcome to the 21st Century!!

Here are some tips on how to #breaktheinternet during any and every award show you wish you were attending.

Use the right #hashtag for the event

Depending on the event, this probably includes things like #Grammys, #Oscars, #VMAs, #MyCousinsSixthBirthday, etc. It’s a small tool that helps you stay focused on your topic and sends the message that you know exactly what you’re talking about.

Let your followers know

Give your followers a heads up that you will be live tweeting a certain event. Some might want to tune you out, and in that case, you know who your true friends are.

Get Twitter names of performers and celebrities before the event

Fill your drafts with the Twitter handles of all your favorites. Your reaction time when something dramatic happens will most likely triple.

Visual stimulation

Tweeting with just 140 characters? Amateur move. A picture is worth a thousand words, so give your followers a behind-the-scenes look by snapping a cute pic of the pizza you just devoured, or a video of your friends crying during Adele’s performance.

Quote speakers correctly

Giving proper attribution to celebrities and quoting acceptance speeches correctly is crucial to remaining a credible live-tweeter. This skill will definitely come in handy when celebrities surprise announce their presidential platform (@kanyewest).

Be generous

Retweet and favorite celebrity posts from the event to increase your social image. When they follow you, make sure to follow them back. Your newly created connections could extend to celebrity endorsements in the future.

Happy Tweeting!
