How to make a Final Four weekend spent alone not suck

Surprise! The UNC men’s basketball team has made it into the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. You heard it here first!

Somehow a large quantity of my friends acquired very inexpensive tickets and are road tripping down to Houston for the game this weekend. Being a student at UNC makes you a basketball fan. Being a basketball fan makes this game the most EXCITING THING IN THE WORLD.

I will not be able to join my comrades on this promising adventure, for I have an adventure of my own! I will be dog sitting.

So, if you’re like me and have very important things to do this weekend (like walk a dog) here are some ways to make your viewing of the game just as exciting as the real thing.

Spend all of Friday driving around your neighborhood (allotting time to let the dog out). The drive from Chapel Hill to Houston is about 18 hours, so you should budget this week for gas. If you drive around your neighborhood for that long, it will feel just like you are going to Houston with your friends! You have a lot a time to kill, so I’d say the new No Tolerance speeding law is a blessing to you. It’ll keep you from rushing the journey.

Wear all of your UNC gear on Saturday. All of it. Every t-shirt, every long sleeve t-shirt, every hoodie, every pair of sweats, every hat. Go ahead and paint your face. All of the clothing on you will make you feel like a true UNC fan. Also the weight of it all will comfort you like a hug since all of your friends are gone.

During the game, sit as far back from the television at you possibly can. This way, you will give yourself a more relatable perspective to those in Houston. You should sit outside and watch through the window.

Sleep in your car. This is not a part of your 18 hour drive.

Instagram this photo after we win. It's the third photo that shows up when you Google image search UNC men's basketball.

Play with the dog that you're dog sitting. Realize that this dog sitting job symbolizes so much more than you had originally thought. It symbolizes your fierce individuality. It symbolizes your willing and serving heart. It symbolizes commitment. You should include this experience in your resume.
