Steam, Valve’s popular gaming client, is hitting the big screen. Well, a bigger screen. As confirmed by Kotaku, Valve will roll out a setting called “Big Picture” that optimizes the service for television screens later today. Perfect for the living room, Big Picture allows gamers to use Steam with a controller, bringing the console experience to PC gaming. Also touted is a fullscreen web browser that “doesn’t suck” and uses dual analog sticks to surf the web.
Though Big Picture could be used for a future gaming system, Valve is holding off. According to Greg Coomer, who headed the mode development, Valve has no road map for development of any hardware but will use customer experience to determine what to do next. In the meantime, get ready to hook up your dorm room television to your laptop.
