That’s about a seventh of the world, or nearly half of people who use the Internet. The average age of new users joining Facebook in the week leading up to this milestone is 22.
Facebook has hit this milestone while acknowledging that it is going through some tough times; its IPO has not fared so well on Wall Street. Stocks for the company sat at $21.82 per share at the end of Thursday, a 43 percent drop from the original share price. Some investors are skeptical that Mark Zuckerberg is capable of leading the company.
Facebook has also released a video on Thursday that appears to be trying to showcase how the website strives to connect people to one another.
Zuckerberg has, of course, updated his timeline to reflect the 1 billion milestone for Facebook and has also written a note thanking users for helping to achieve it.
