A boy climbs into an inflatable moon walk and slide Tuesday evening at the Hargraves Community Center.  The event sought to bring together long-term residents of the Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhoods with the students who live in them for only one or two years.

The Neighborhood Night Out at the Hargraves Community Center took place Tuesday evening.  The event was sponsored by UNC-Chapel Hill Student Affairs,  UNC-Chapel Hill Student Government, University Relations, the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Empowerment, Inc. and the Chapel Hill Police Department.

Dean Blackburn, assistant Dean of Students, said the event would provide an oppurtunity for long term neighbors and students to come together.

Veronita Hargraves, daugther of William Hargraves, after whom the community center is named, said that she was happy about the safety the event provided.  She has one son, Omavi, 12, who was present at the event with some other children his age.  "Its a really good chance for them to get out and enjoy themselves."

Savada Gilmore, an afterschool counselor at the community center said he thought the event was beneficial because "it brings people together."  He said that the children he works with get caught up in routine and don't get always get out to see friends.  He said everyone "should play a part in making the community a better place."
