My uncle Dan looks weighed down by the blankets on the hospital bed. His chemotherapy has left him with fuzz coating his head where there was once thick, dark, curly hair. Despite his exhausted body, his gaze and energy directed at the television are as intense as they were in health. He is watching the Tar Heels play in the Elite 8 in 2016. His enthusiastic mutterings and frustrated exclamations (“Rebound!”) fill his sunny room on the fourth floor of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. In his hospital bed, with a view of the Dean Dome, Dan is looking for a victory.
