This is my last column for the DTH. It feels so odd writing that. On the opinion page, I have given a lot of (unsolicited) advice, defended Taylor Swift (sometimes misguided), written several odes to the Varsity Theatre, and expressed many #feelings. Through all of this, I hope I have in some small way created a place for people like me who have at times felt really lost. To tell people it’s okay to love, or not, things about UNC.

To all the hopeful Tar Heels visiting campus: I’ve been where you are now.

The last few weeks have been filled with quite a few “lasts.” Last Duke-UNC game as an undergrad (eh, let’s forget that one). Last compilation of the literary magazine on campus for which I serve as editor-in-chief. Even more daunting are all the lasts coming up in the next few weeks and months. Next week, last spring break. Apr. 24, LDOC. Yes, I am on the way to grad school this fall, so school isn’t necessarily ending, but undergrad and all of its one-of-a-kind experiences are.

Literature is everywhere at UNC. The libraries, while formidable storehouses of knowledge and words, only scratch the surface of our university’s rich literary history. As an English and creative writing student, I am lucky to have many encounters with literature beyond the stacks of Davis.

I don’t remember how I heard the news. It was Feb. 10 and I didn’t have morning classes. It definitely wasn’t via Alert Carolina — at least maybe not until way later. I do remember sitting at my alcove desk in Hinton-James my first year when I heard.

In summer 2016, the Chelsea Theater, located in the Timberlyne Shopping Center, became my dark hideaway. On fuzzy, humid nights, I’d make solitary pilgrimages to the little theater just ten minutes from my Carrboro home.

The night before Taylor Swift’s new album “Reputation” was unleashed upon the waiting world, I boldly announced to my squad, “If Taylor doesn’t address her political silence on the album, I think I’m going to have to let her go.”

I can say without a doubt that the Varsity Theatre is my favorite thing on Franklin Street. That seems like litotes.

One of the reasons I started writing for the DTH was because I wanted to be in dialogue with my community. Not many of my columns over the years have sparked political debate, but I am contributing to a narrative, and that has been a wonderful way to express my opinions as a student here.

Campus Health has been a sort of home away from home for me as an undergrad.

The “Athleisure” look used to baffle me. As a first year, I remember being shocked at how many women wore oversized shirts that covered their Nike shorts.

This column will be published on the last day of class. When Tyler, the opinion editor, told me I could write a column for today, I obviously thought a long time about what would be the most appropriate.

It might be dangerous to put this in print, but here goes: I used to actively avoid UNC basketball. Now that I’ve written it, it feels good to get it out.

About two weeks ago, Lorde blessed the world with her new song “Green Light,” the first single from her upcoming album “Melodrama.”

My favorite TV show is ending. “Girls,” the often controversial and critiqued HBO series, is ending. While the mourning period hasn’t yet hit me, my friends and I can still bemoan the ridiculous choices the characters in the show make. Usually while watching, either one of my fellow “Girls” watchers (looking at you, Gaby and Lily) or I will say in exasperation, “When are they going to grow up?”

If you haven’t seen the romantic comedy classic “You’ve Got Mail,” you haven’t really lived. I started to think about this movie quite often because, at its heart, it’s about bookstores. The film celebrates the independent bookstore and quietly demonizes the corporate one. I don’t want to give too much away about the film, but I will say the independent bookstore doesn’t fare so well in the end. The economy and competition from the big chain store ultimately shut its doors.

Over winter break, as so many folks begin to do in December, I started to think about my goals for the coming year. I generally feel opposed to setting New Year’s resolutions, but at the end of the all-too-terrible 2016, I thought making a few might set a nice, optimistic tone to 2017. I sat down with a pen and paper feeling a little stumped. Then my stomach grumbled.

I love Christmastime.

It’s no secret I love some problematic female figures. Most notably among them are Hillary Clinton, Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift. Within the last few weeks, these three figures have intersected.

Every year I begin planning my Halloween costume months before the spookiest day of the year is even close. This year, after watching Wes Anderson’s film “Rushmore,” I decided I wanted to dress up as the movie’s hero, Max. I decided this in February (hey, I told you I plan early).
