A Dell laptop, valued at $1,000, was reported stolen at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday at a Sykes Street home, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Larceny was reported at 3:12 p.m. Sunday at 159 1/2 E. Thunderstorms early Saturday afternoon postponed the Eve Carson Memorial Benefit Concert, which will now take place Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Student Union. Ryan Kirkman, member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, which sponsored the event with student government, said Carolina Union officials waited as long as they could but ultimately were forced to call off today's event. Police investigating armed robberies against Latinos The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating armed robberies at three apartment complexes Tuesday night. The robberies were reported at Kingswood, Pinegate and Kings Arms apartment complexes between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. In all three of the cases, Latinos reported being approached by two black males between 17 and 19 years old. Both suspects are described as being tall and thin and wearing black shirts and pants.

A traveling mishap leaves them stranded in a small desert town, depending on the hospitality of restaurant owner Dina (Ronit Elkabetz) and her two awkward friends.
Thomas Wright's seat filled in wake of prison sentence Gov. Mike Easley appointed Sandra Spaulding Hughes on Wednesday to fill the District 18 seat in the N.C. House of Representatives that was left vacant by the expulsion of Thomas Wright. Hughes is a retired educator with the N.C. Cooperative Extension Services. She also served on the Wilmington City Council from 1999 to 2003.

UNC student Justin Michael Garnet, 21, was arrested for drunk driving, reckless driving and driving left of center at 3:35 a.m. Friday at 306 W. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Garnet had a 0.18 blood alcohol content, according to reports. Police impounded his gray 2001 Jeep Cherokee and he was confined at Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, reports state. He is scheduled to appear in court today, according to reports.

DeVotchKa A Mad and Faithful Telling Rock 3 stars Music can speak for itself. After gaining attention for scoring "Little Miss Sunshine," former burlesque show backing band DeVotchKa stays true to its sound on its latest release, A Mad and Faithful Telling. The group's central quartet covers a madcap variety of sounds, with guitars, theremin, piano, trumpet, violin, accordion, sousaphone, acoustic bass and percussion. This, augmented by additional violin, viola, cello and oboe, and the gypsy ensemble is complete.
