Q&A: UNC grad and USADA head Travis Tygart talks Lance Armstrong case and more

Travis Tygart graduated from UNC in 1993 with a degree in philosophy. Now, he's the CEO of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which in 2012 helped expose cyclist Lance Armstrong in a massive doping scandal. In light of ESPN's recently-released documentary, Lance, senior writer Ryan Wilcox caught up with Tygart to discuss his role in the Armstrong saga and more. Answers have been edited for brevity and clarity.

Column: The perfect game is sports' greatest feat

Even in a game filled with numbers, throwing a perfect game is unpredictable  — and many of the game's all-time greats never accomplish it. But maintaining perfection for nine innings isn't all about the numbers, and that's what makes it one of sports greatest accomplishments.

A postseason that never was at UNC baseball's Boshamer Stadium

In a normal season, Friday would have marked the beginning of the NCAA Baseball Tournament, culminating in the eight-team College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, starting June 13. The Tar Heels, 12-7 when their season was cut short, were ranked No. 23 by D1 Baseball at the start of the year. Now, though, there is nothing to play for.

Football players will begin return to campus June 12, Brown says

After the NCAA decided to allow student-athletes to return to campus on June 1, UNC football players will start returning to campus June 12. Head coach Mack Brown said despite the uncertainty, his team is ready to return and willing to make any adjustments necessary to ensure safety during the pandemic.
