Eastgate Crossing stormwater construction to complete within the next month

About a third of the parking spaces in the Eastgate Crossing shopping center in Chapel Hill are currently unusable due to construction, but work should be done within the next month. The purpose of the project is to mitigate flooding problems in the area, as the shopping center was built over a section of Booker Creek. The project began on March 1 and is expected to take between 45 to 60 days to complete.

N.C. Republicans propose bill to bar public schools from teaching about race, sex in certain contexts

House Bill 187, meant to prohibit teachers from promoting or teaching about race and sex in certain contexts in North Carolina public schools, was filed by North Carolina House Republicans on Feb. 23. Its introduction follows similar efforts by Republicans to combat the teaching of subjects such as critical race theory in other states like Florida and Tennessee.

Community Empowerment Fund to host event celebrating Black female leaders

The Community Empowerment Fund is hosting the Share the Love: Art Show and Celebration of Black Queens in Our Community event on Feb. 25 to recognize Black women leaders in the community.  Six Black women leaders from the Orange County and Durham area will be introduced and then "crowned" as queens for their contributions. Local artists will also present their work.  The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carrboro Century Center.

Orange County and Chapel Hill Transit provide resources for getting to the polls

Local voters without access to cars or other forms of personal transportation have a number of resources available for traveling to the polls on Election Day. One resource is Chapel Hill Public Transit, which has several routes that stop within walking distance to polls. The Orange County Democratic Party also has a volunteer ride service that can transport voters to polling locations.
