UNC increases aid to science scholars

Just one semester into its first year, the Chancellor’s Science Scholars Program will nearly double in size. At a White House summit on college affordability earlier this month, Chancellor Carol Folt committed to doubling a financial assistance program for science students next academic year.


Sarah MacLean and Kyle Villemain, junior Global Studies and Peace, War, and Defense majors, are the winners of the 2013 Eve Carson Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship provides $5,000 for a summer program of their choice and half of their senior year tuition.

Eve Carson Scholars serve in memory

Two UNC juniors now have the responsibility of carrying on Eve Carson’s legacy. Sarah MacLean and Kyle Villemain were named the 2014-15 recipients of the Eve Carson Scholarship on Nov. 25.


System may adopt standardized tests

UNC-system schools are now voting on whether to approve the newly proposed subjects of systemwide assessments, intended to prove that students learn in college. But members of the UNC-CH Faculty Executive Committee said at its Monday meeting that they are concerned with the rushed process.
