Neighbors say woman causing a stink

Some Chapel Hill residents are trying to convince the town to rid a neighbor's yard of unsanitary human waste, but inspectors say they haven't found evidence for their complaints. At a Chapel Hill Town Council meeting Monday, several residents complained about the sanitation conditions of Cheng-Yin Fan's yard at 720 Lea Court. Council members agreed to look into what kind of common law action can be taken.

Firefighters return from aid trip to Louisiana

First responders from around Orange County are back in town after giving time and energy to a nationwide effort to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. Chapel Hill sent firefighters Doug Parrish, David Sasser, Chris Stephens and Jerry Boone to various Louisiana locales during a 30-day span to assist with relief efforts. "We were called community relations specialists," said Parrish, whose duties included working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross to make sure victims had food, water and medicine.

Hamilton sees system as one for all children

Jean Hamilton has a lot invested in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system - her two children attend Estes Hills Elementary School and Phillips Middle School. Hamilton is one of four candidates vying for three open seats on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education. Running for the first time, Hamilton said she wants to be on the school board to help improve the quality of education for each child and to better voice the concerns of teachers.
