Troupe travels far to perform the Bard

William Shakespeare, who once wrote that "misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows," knew a thing or two about unique friendships. And 400 years after the Bard put down his quill, a group of students is living out such camaraderie - with Shakespeare's plays at the center of their summers. Single Shot Theatre Company was founded by producer Jonah Garson, a UNC sophomore, and director Lucius Robinson, a Georgetown sophomore and National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts award-winner who has 11 Shakespeare productions under his belt.

Puzzle picture's a crowd-pleaser

MOVIEREVIEW "Wordplay" 3.5 Stars Many people find crossword puzzles to be a comforting mental luxury. Some only encounter the puzzles serendipitously on a plane; others tackle them as part of a daily routine. "Wordplay" is a documentary from first-time director Patrick Creadon that delves into the creation and completion of The New York Times' infamously challenging crossword puzzle - and the competition that emerges out of it. It isn't the first film to take on the competitive world of words.

Altman's latest a lackluster bore

MOVIEREVIEW "A Prairie Home Companion" 1.5 Stars Garrison Keillor, host of National Public Radio's long-running series "A Prairie Home Companion," is to adults what Barney is to kids. Keillor's style of entertainment is tailored towards humans in their latter years who have boring sex, enjoy organic food and have full understanding of words like "pension" and "mortgage." I suppose the hype is to blame. Directed by Robert Altman, written by Keillor and packed with stars, a movie take on the popular radio show with those credentials has to be good, right?
