North Carolina’s softball team has finally begun to find its rhythm. After struggling to get timely hits with runners in scoring position during the past few games, the Tar Heels (10-5) were able to use patience at the plate, aggression on the base paths and a bit of small ball to finish at the top of the annual Carolina Classic with a record of 3-0.
Although the North Carolina fencing team wasn’t able to replicate last weekend’s remarkable success, it was able to get a preview of opponents it will see later in the season.
The No. 25 North Carolina softball team opened their three-game series against ACC opponent Georgia Tech with a double header on Sunday. UNC (35-16, 11-6 ACC) defeated the Yellow Jackets (22-25, 7-7) 7-1 in game one before losing 8-5 in game two. Prior to the start of the first game, the Tar Heels celebrated senior day to honor their six seniors. In the series opener, UNC jumped out to a 7-0 after just 3 innings of play.
Sometimes good results happen when a group that is used to doing everything together does something apart. That was exactly the case for the North Carolina track and field team, who faced its first weekend of competition apart as it hosted the Gene Anderson Invitational, traveled to New York for the Armory Collegiate Invitational, and journeyed to Winston-Salem for the JDL Invitational.
