Legislators head back to school

In an effort to become more involved with the daily workings of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, local representatives in the N.C. House and Senate became part of a classroom involvement initiative Tuesday. The Legislators Return to Schools project is the product of a coordinated effort between the National Conference of State Legislatures, the National Education Association and the N.C. Association of Educators.

ACT test rises in popularity

As the deadline to sign up for next month's ACT quickly approaches, a fresh group of high school students is scrambling to determine if the test is pertinent to the college application process. Friday is the last day to register for the Oct. 28 ACT. The SAT continues to dominate the standardized testing market for college hopefuls, but the ACT has seen a steady rise in popularity. This trend is evident locally. Last year, 10,400 graduating seniors in North Carolina took the ACT, representing an increase of 3,500 students from 10 years earlier.
