UNC men's basketball postpones Notre Dame game until Sunday because of water shortage

The North Carolina men's basketball team's home game against Notre Dame, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, has been postponed until Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum, the team announced Friday.

The news comes hours after the Orange Water and Sewer Authority sent a message to its customers Friday morning to limit water use following a water main break on the northeast side of Chapel Hill.

Around 1 p.m., the University announced it would be canceling classes and closing offices after 1 p.m. on Friday. A few minutes later, the team announced that head coach Roy Williams' press conference, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., had been canceled.

At 1:42 p.m., the North Carolina gymnastics team was the first to alter its schedule, announcing on Twitter that its home meet that night had been canceled because of the campus closure.

Several other athletic events, including the men's and women's lacrosse season openers and the wrestling team's meet tomorrow night, have been moved to high schools outside the affected area.

This is the second UNC men's basketball game to be postponed this season. On Jan. 7, inclement weather and hazardous traveling conditions caused the Tar Heels' game against N.C. State to be moved to the next day. North Carolina won that game, 107-56.
