DTH at a Glance: Mondaze

Just another Manic Monday? We’ve got all the need-to-know info to kickstart your week:

QUICK HITS

  • “The whole point of a women’s college is providing a space for those of marginalized gender identities to be educated in an environment that’s more productive and safer.” Two of North Carolina’s women-only colleges now have transgender-inclusive gender policies.
  • The men’s basketball team battled ECU, UNC-G and UNC-W on Sunday in the Disaster Relief Jamboree, ending with a 2-1 record (and reunion of UNC’s former coaches and players).
  • OPINION: Skip the Uber, call 911. Many students have forgotten the University’s medical amnesty policy, which prevents prosecution when seeking help in a situation involving underage drinking.

SEX, BABY

  • In an effort to reduce teen pregnancy, two UNC doctoral students are creating an app that teaches middle school students about sex education. And UNC students had a lot to say about their experiences in sex ed classes.
  • In other sex-related news, North Carolina is ranked sixth-highest in the nation for prevalence of STIs, according to Background Checks.org.
  • More of a “friends with benefits” type? UNC’s more than 600 student-run organizations turn to Franklin Street to host benefit nights.
