Twitter announces Butch Davis will remain in '11

North Carolina football coach will remaining at the helm of the program for 2011, according to the team’s official Twitter on Sunday.

“Butch Davis will be UNC’s coach in 2011. Lots of false rumors circulating in wake of Carolina’s recruiting success,” the Twitter page @TarHeelFootball said on Sunday night.

Team spokesman Kevin Best said the revelation is nothing new and was confirmed on Nov. 18 at a UNC Board of Trustees meeting.

Pianalto out for the regular season

North Carolina tight end Zack Pianalto will not play for the rest of the regular season after suffering a fracture right fibula in UNC’s 44-10 win against Virginia on Saturday.

Statement from Greg Little

Former UNC wide receiver Greg Little issued a statement through the athletic department apologizing to his teammmates, coaches and fans.

On Monday, Little was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA for violations of NCAA agent benefits, preferential treatment and ethical conduct rules.

Davis' media address yields no new developments

No new developments came out of Butch Davis’ media address Thursday before practice, just two days before North Carolina’s home opener against Georgia Tech.

Davis said no players have been cleared since running back Shaun Draughn was ruled eligible for competition on Monday. He also said that players who are ineligible to play will not dress out on the sidelines.

Halftime Update: UNC 10, LSU 30

North Carolina began its season opener against LSU as if the Tar Heels didn’t need the 13 ineligible players.

Halfway through the second half, it was apparent they did.

In a span of five minutes and 38 seconds, the Tigers scored 23 points to take a 30-10 lead against UNC in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.

Athletic department updates players on social media

The North Carolina athletic department released an updated version of its social networking policy to its student-athletes on Monday.

The policy reminder comes at a time when Twitter and Facebook have played roles with players involved with the NCAA investigation into possible improprieties with sports agents and a former University mentor.

Fedora to UNC not yet official

Southern Mississippi head football coach Larry Fedora is at the center of swirling rumors about the coaching vacancy at North Carolina. Fedora has been a prominent name among many head coaching vacancies in recent weeks, and according to several reports it appears he has settled on UNC. But his older brother, John, told The Daily Tar Heel that as of 2 p.m., he had not heard of his brother accepting the North Carolina position. “I know rumors are out there that he’s accepted a contract,” he said.
