On Monday, the University registrar’s office will release the official listing of classes for the upcoming fall semester on ConnectCarolina. This comes in preparation for class registration, which will begin on June 1. For those of us who love planning for classes more than we enjoy actually taking them, this period of time each semester is usually devoted to the creation of the perfect schedule.

Update, 11:45 a.m.: UNC's physical distancing guideline asks members of the Carolina community to remain at least 6 feet apart in outdoor and indoor settings, Carolina Together states. Individual deans can petition the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost for an exception to have a standard distancing of 3 to 6 feet in certain classroom settings.

At the end of a semester, usually in exchange for extra credit, many students will review their class experiences in surveys that either get sent back to the teacher or to the department. Unfortunately, no one really knows how effective these surveys are or whether they lead to departmental changes.

The General Education curriculum, better known as Gen Eds, is a system used by UNC to teach students a wide range of skills, knowledge, values and habits that will allow them to grow into well-rounded individuals. Essentially, it's just a laundry list of courses you need to check off before you graduate at Carolina.
