A female UNC student was the victim of an attempted sexual assault early Friday morning near the Morehead Planetarium, according to an email from the Department of Public Safety to University students, faculty and staff.
A dark-skinned black male approached the woman as she walked alone at 3:30 a.m. and pushed her to the ground near the sundial in front of the planetarium, the email states.
The student quickly escaped while the suspect fled on foot, according to the email.
The suspect is described as bald and aged 35 to 40 with average height and build.
The student reported the incident to UNC police midday Friday. Police are investigating, and ask anyone with information about the suspect to call 911 or contact CrimeStoppers at 919-942-7515.
