An empty Franklin Street on March 23, 2020. Coronavirus has forced several businesses to close down or significantly reduce operations.

The number of COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continues to increase each day. Recently, Gov. Roy Cooper issued a statewide stay-at-home order in an attempt to combat the spread of the virus.

This has had a massive impact on the state’s economy, and many local businesses are feeling the pressure from the effects of the pandemic.

In this audio piece, staff writer Taylor Heeden asks state legislators, local officials and local business owners to discuss what COVID-19 has done to the state economy, as well as how local businesses have been combating the economic losses from the virus.
