DTH at a Glance: Shirt alert

There are a lot of things I love about Carolina. The beautiful campus, the passionate students, the prestigious journalism school and the incredible student newspaper have all made me fall even further in love with this university since I stepped on campus as a scared baby first-year.

But above all else I love free T-shirts. I'm wearing one as I type this. I got a free T-shirt today while wearing the other free T-shirt (shoutout to the 2015 RHA Silent Disco and Rethink: Psychiatric Illness respectively). As a major cheapskate with a fashion sense that has been described as "millennial safari worker chic," I'll be bringing at least five of my campus clothing finds to the photo day for UNC's new T-shirt Archive.

QUICK HITS

  • The Associated Press conducted a seven-month-long investigation into campaign and lobbying donations made by the opioid industry. They uncovered over $880 million in contributions across the U.S. — $500,000 of which went to North Carolina officials.
  • Voters backed by Hillary Clinton's campaign have filed an injunction to modify early voting plans in five North Carolina counties. The group claims that the early voting schedules in these counties exclude some voters and extend wait times for punctual pollsters.
  • Seniors Emma Johnson and Hannah Petersen are organizing a town hall to discuss the Delaney Robinson case and its effects on students. The event, which will be held in the Great Hall, will feature on-campus survivors of sexual assault.

IN PLAYS ON A THEME

PlayMakers Repertory Company is breathing new life into Arthur Miller's classic play "The Crucible." The production, which starts next week and marks the company's third take on the wickedly accusatory Salem witch trials, will feature an innovative stage arrangement and a modern perspective that may show parallels between today's presidential election and the supernatural drama of the 1690s. I am very excited to see it, and it's only kind of because I have to write a 10-page paper on it for class.

IN THE DMs

Junior Jeremiah Clarke is a defensive tackle for UNC football, but he's making big plays in other places too. The smooth operator found Twitter fame and national acclaim after saying that he could "teach a class" on sliding in the DMs. Fortunately for all of you out there participating in cuffing season, Clarke is taking his class on a test run in an interview with Swerve.

IN APPETITE ATTITUDES

The Stone Center featured a presentation on healthy eating habits Wednesday night. "Making Food Your Friend" was led by Jessica Setnick, the founder of The Eating Disorder Bootcamp, and focused on reframing attitudes toward body-shaming and minimizing distractions while eating. The DTH sat down with Setnick to further discuss her observations on food attitudes at college.

Meet Shane Phillips, a graduate student in the UNC School of Social Work. He's been in sustained recovery since he was 18, and his story is part of the Carolina Recovery Program's awareness month going on for all members of the UNC community.
