DTH at a Glance: Thursday morning thoughts

Gooooooood morning, UNC! After careful thought and consideration (and several Instagram DMs, kvetches and in-person complaints), Glance is moving back to the a.m.. So put on some coffee, go to your 8 o'clock class and catch up on the news:

QUICK HITS

  • Carrboro has the highest population density rate in NC, a fact that’s even wilder when you consider that the town only takes up 2 percent of Orange County.
  • “You can’t assert your free expression rights as a shield or a sword against others’ rights." The Board of Governors is drafting a policy that allows the expulsion for students who regularly disrupt free speech on campus.
  • In honor of National Coming Out Day, we asked students who have come out to share their stories.

LIFE, LIBERTY, UNIVERSITY

  • “For this population, the experience of being Spanish has been difficult and somewhat strange.” Julia Mack aims to provide Hispanic students with a supportive community and an opportunity to grasp their identities.
  • Rev. William Barber spoke at the Weil Lecture on American Citizenship on Wednesday. He talked about President Trump, the problems facing the country and civil disobedience.
  • Our editorial board might agree with Jeff Sessions on his recent statement on free speech — but the devil is in the details.

IN THE ARTS

  • Singer-songwriter Julien Baker is coming to Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw on Friday. We talked to her about her artistic process, her relationship with music and her upcoming album.
  • Everybody be cool — CHiPs is holding a “Thursday the 12th” show to ward off evil and bring on the laughter for Friday.
  • The play might be old, but the message isn’t Anti-Gone. Kenan Theatre Company is putting a new coat of paint on a centuries-old play.
