Craven, Lovejoy to miss 2013 soccer season

Senior forwards Andy Craven and Rob Lovejoy will both miss the entire 2013 season for the North Carolina men’s soccer team, thinning UNC’s attack. Craven, the team’s leading scorer last year, sustained a foot injury requiring surgery, team spokesman Mark Kimmel confirmed. Lovejoy, tied for the second most goals during the previous season, will be out due to a torn groin muscle. Coach Carlos Somoano will have to find goals elsewhere, and admitted that the injuries to the two seniors were a blow to the team.


A quick look at UNC's 2-1 win over New Mexico

North Carolina, the nation’s No. 1 women’s soccer team, met its first bit of adversity Friday night after allowing an early goal to New Mexico and walked into the locker room down 1-0 in the first home game of the season. The Tar Heels gave up their first goal of the year in the 10th minute of the game, and despite outshooting New Mexico 7-2 in the first half, they would trail 1-0 at the end of the period.


Women's Soccer Halftime: New Mexico 1, North Carolina 0

The North Carolina women’s soccer team gave up their first goal this season in their first home game of the year against New Mexico at Fetzer Field Friday night. The Tar Heels managed three quick shots on goal in the first 5:10 of play, but at 9:24, New Mexico’s Dylann O’Connor chased down a loose ball in the UNC goal box and sent it past senior goalkeeper Anna Sieloff into the bottom left of the net.
