UNC Young Democrats factor in getting out the vote

County Democrats say the UNC Young Democrats have played a larger role in gaining support for the party in this election. They expect their efforts to get out the vote and register voters will have an impact on the election results for the Democrats tonight.

The UNC student body has been overwhelmingly supportive of Price, as is reflected in his numbers tonight, Carrboro mayor Mark Chilton said.

He also said students are the wild card in the election results, and he is interested to see what the turnout numbers look like in the more student-dominated precincts.

Democrat N.C. Senate candidate Kinnaird said she was grateful for her re-election. She said she is disappointed she did not win more support in Person County, as she led significant efforts in the area to address certain issues.

The county, though usually Democratic, Kinnaird said, is looking for answers from the other party in tough times.

She also said her campaign has counted on students for support. The UNC Young Democrats have worked really hard to get out the vote and register voters, she said.
