Former Apple CEO and visionary Steve Jobs passes away at 56

Steve Jobs, the man who founded Apple and invented the iPod, iPhone, iPad and Macintosh, passed away at 56, according to the Apple website. Jobs had been fighting cancer since 2004, taking three leaves of absences from Apple in a seven year span. Jobs officially stepped down on Aug. 24.

During his time at Apple, Jobs turned electronics into design, making computers that were thought to be nerdy into something mainstream. Jobs was also responsible for the return of Apple as a company after many critics declared it dead in 1995.

My first electronic gadget that I could call my own was a gray iPod mini. That device was so magical, as it was not only intuitive to use but also felt like it was truly mine. Every Apple product I’ve had since then has had a personal feel to it. In a way, the devices he designed were really built from a user’s perspective, a quality that has served Apple well for the past decade.

I’ll miss Steve Jobs, and I’ll mourn the loss that the tech community has experienced. In the meantime, you can help to fight cancer by contributing to Relay for Life or other charities.
